POETA Accessible
POETA centers are centers of inclusive digital opportunities where local organizations, with the guidance and partnership of the Trust, provide training and workshops on technology and labor skills to the previously mentioned populations.
The program also allows participants to establish independence through information technology that enriches their lives. The program also promotes long-term, real change in the public, private, and civil society sectors by way of socially inclusive, sustainable, and easily reproduced models of development.
POETA Accessible's Vision:
The program envisions a Latin America where persons with disabilities actively participate in society as self-respected employees, entrepreneurs, with access to opportunities for continued educational development.
Additionally, it envisions a network of companies, governmental agencies, and non-profits that work together to provide training in information and communication technology and social and labor inclusion for persons with disabilities, as well as the ability to influence and modify public policy.
POETA Accessible's Mission:
During the Decade of Disability (2006-2016), POETA Accessible will work with governments, companies, organizations for/of persons with disabilities, and other stakeholders to achieve labor and educational inclusion for persons with disabilities in Latin America through the use of information and communciation technology.
Strategic Areas:
POETA aims to develop and maximize the following areas:
- Training in ICTs and Job Skills Development: Promote the use and goodmanagement of ICTs and Adapted Technologies (AT): The POETA centers provide training in technological skills for jobs, make adapted technologies available to the community that facilitates the use of computers by people with disabilities and additionally operate as centers of technology for the communities.
- Construction of a Social Conscience: Influence public policy to promote and transform the labor inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. The program seeks to promote a culture of inclusion and a perspective of human rights for persons with disabilities, through a media campaign and dissemination and promotion. Similarly, the program seeks to spread awareness of the need for inclusive development, taking into account the needs of the disabled in order to achieve one of the major goals of the millennium: the overcoming of poverty.
- Employment Inclusion: Sensitizing and mobilizing actors to promote the social inclusion and employment of the disabled. So the program seeks to establish clear channels of communication between the actors and choose the best alliances for the proper performance of the program. The program tries to raise awareness for businesses and unions on the relevance and importance of promoting the social integration of persons with disabilities.
- Institutional Strengthening: Sustainability of the centers and promoting networking. On one side it provides training that aims to achieve organizational, financial, social, technological and political sustainability. As well, it seeks to create a network between all local partners by linking to Platform web 2.0.
